Working at Lightyear is a unique experience. You get the opportunity to work for a company with a pure and meaningful mission. A mission that will make a positive and lasting impact on future generations.
What will you do as a Solar Proto Lead?
As a solar prototyping lead you’re leading a small team of solar prototyping engineers and you’re responsible for keeping the lab calibrated and up to date with relevant technology. In practice the three main elements of this role consist of (1) planning and scheduling of the lab activities, (2) keeping equipment up to date and calibrated, and (3) working alongside the proto engineers in building prototypes and conducting experimental manufacturing methods.
The lab activities itself range from performing sample measurements in coordination with testing, building proto parts entered via the proto portal and analyzing materials and samples. This person needs to be able to plan work and maintain the lab area as well as enable the solar prototyping engineers to perform their jobs and provide hands-on support where needed.
As a Solar Proto Lead you will have the following tasks and responsibilities:
A day as a Solar Proto Lead at Lightyear
So, let's assume it's Friday. You start the day at the office with a cup of coffee or tea before you open your laptop. Taking a quick glance over your e-mails, you focus on the prototype portal which provides you with the jobs in que and you scan for new requests.
In the daily stand-up you go over the progress with your team and check issues and status updates. Some jobs might require inputs from engineering for which you will be the liaison, others require materials to be coming in via the logistic flow.
You will be the champion for your team in removing roadblocks and aligning with the departments for which you’re performing work. Therefore it is important to manage stakeholders and align within the several departments.
During the course of the day production quality will come in to perform the CoP (Conformity of Production) tests which might require your attention and engineering and research might make an inquiry.
And then you decide: it’s time for lunch!
You decided to go for a walk together with a few colleagues, because the weather is perfect today (the sun is ALWAYS shining at Lightyear of course!). During walks like these, it's not all about work. You talk about when you will go mountain biking together or about what you have planned for the upcoming weekend.
In the afternoon you align with the project managers of the various projects to learn about their mid to long term plan and how that will affect your area. Once a week you align with the manager operations on the progress and the forecast of workload and equipment requirements. Towards the end of the day, you check if things went to plan and ensure the lab is nice tidy before leaving. Then, it's finally time for your well-deserved Friday afternoon drink or you participate in one of the fun activities our happiness team comes up with!
