Working at Lightyear is a unique experience. You get the opportunity to work for a company with a pure and meaningful mission. A mission that will make a positive and lasting impact on future generations.

What will you do as a Software Engineer for Performance Modeling?

At Lightyear we are continuously searching for ways to work on data-based models describing the effect of design choices on the real-world driving performance and market competitiveness of our vehicles. An example of this is the Vehicle Performance Model (VPM), which is a Matlab/Simulink model that is developed to model the energy consumption of all components in the car. With this model, we are continuously tracking the design of the vehicle, and looking for improvements that will benefit the energy consumption and range of the vehicles we are designing. Also, for future vehicles, we use the model to estimate the performance of different vehicle architectures, control strategies, etc.

Specifically, this includes:

  • Setting up the pipeline to generate and store data with the VPM

  • (Automatic) interface with other models within the company

  • Deployment of the tool in the cloud design and develop back-end applications to support all users of our cloud platform, including the mobile application, website, fleet, and other external systems
  • Building a web-based application for managing model in- and outputs and visualizing model results
