What will you do as a Software Architect

As a Software Architect you will become part of the engineering team at Lightyear, In this role you will help grow the Software department and lead the software development within the company. You will work closely together with the Electrical, Test & Simulations and Applications teams to balance both current market demands and shape the roadmap for further development and products. 

You are responsible for all software, which includes embedded software for the control of our power converters and telematics unit, but also the associated cloud platform and Android / iPhone app, and data collection.

Your goal is to architect and develop the software ecosystem in such a way as to maximize standardization between different clients, optimize for power consumption and data charges on the embedded side and user experience for the App.

  • You will lead the development of all software

  • Maintain the roadmap for software development

  • Build and lead software development team from scratch

  • Cloud and embedded Software Architecture, based on your vision, market trends and input from the application and sales teams

  • Responsible for the Tech Stack

  • Selection of toolchains and platforms

  • Aligning with other systems (electrical, performance, simulation, sales, and commercial teams)

A day as a Software Architect

After the daily standup with the team in the morning, where you check if everything is still going according to schedule and if the priorities are still correct, you start by looking at different cloud architectures for the upcoming data controllers that will be built for our next generation solar controllers, making sure all requirements are set to start the new development. You will check with the performance and simulation team what is all needed and how it would be possible to access this data, while at the same time setting up a standard way of working that will be scalable throughout the organization as it grows. 

After lunch, you might have some interviews for new candidates, a conversation with the sales and commercial teams, or engage in a strategy session with the management. If everything is clear, you spend some time reviewing the latest developments in power electronics to understand their impact on your software designs. Once this is all to a level you are happy with, you continue with your team to write the code for the first demonstration unit of the new functionality, which will be tested at the end of the week. 

What do we expect from a Software Architect?

You thrive on working team based, but working independently should come naturally to you. You are flexible and can work under pressure and you are not afraid of failing along the way. Furthermore, we are looking for someone with:

  • A Master’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience;

  • 5 years of relevant experience in a similar or at least (closely) related role;

  • Experience with leading a small team

  • Ability to translate customer requirements into appropriate software architecture

  • Setup Tech stack and infrastructure for the team

  • Toolchain and programming language selections for embedded / cloud / app

  • Familiarity with embedded systems and electronics testing is a plus

  • Familiarity with CAN is a plus

  • Familiarity with Matlab / Simulink and code generation is a plus

  • Excellent people skills and enjoy working with a talented and dynamic multi-disciplinary team
