Working at Lightyear is a unique experience. You get the opportunity to work for a company with a pure and meaningful mission. A mission that will make a positive and lasting impact on future generations.

What will you do as a (Senior) Lab Technician?
Make sure that Lightyear owns innovative, lean, agile, and performant test equipment and facilities to support our technology growth. And that we collaborate on the best external test support that is available. Your job is focused on, but not limited to:

  • You will become the lab owner of multiple test laboratories and test equipment in our Testing Center in Helmond. As there is: an Electronics-lab, an EV drivetrain lab, an EV battery lab, and a Thermal Systems-lab.
  • You maintain and improve the test facilities' ability and performance as a whole, as well as all measurement equipment in your labs.
  • You support the test engineers and test system developers in designing, building, and implementing new test setups and new test facilities, mainly in the power electronics and mechatronics areas.
  • Support the development of new test and measurement equipment for various structural, electrical, and functional tests: this can go from simple rigs to full-vehicle test systems.
  • Implement and improve processes related to the planning and usage of our test facilities.
  • You are the owner of all equipment, the equipment warehouse and the warehouse management tools.
  • You are the go-to person for all test set up information and requests.
  • Make sure that our test facilities are easy to use and safe for all

So what does a typical day look like?
Every day is different. But today you start with joining a Testing stand-up meeting with part of the team where they discuss the bumps in the road that you can help solve. Then you go to your meeting where you propose the new Test Facility Request process needs to our IT department and their consultants. At 10 o’clock you take a walk with a colleague while brainstorming about faster ways of testing the reliability of LV/HV converters. Then some emails and your admin is done. You have lunch with the prototype build engineers in our Canteen.

In the afternoon you go through the DVP of our Driver Interaction system to make sure that you know what test setups and facilities are needed. And you initiate all actions to start developing the missing setups. The end of the day is mostly reporting out the current status of your projects and progress made to 3 Test Coordinators. And discuss the next steps.

When leaving the building to go home, you meet some colleagues, and they invite you to have a drink in the sun in front of our building. After half an hour, you drive home happy and relaxed.
