Working at Lightyear is a unique experience. You get the opportunity to work for a company with a pure and meaningful mission. A mission that will make a positive and lasting impact on future generations.

What will you do as a Production Leader?
As a Production Leader you’ll play a major part in the production process of our technology leading solar panels in the right volume on time and to the best possible quality. In fact, you’ll be the person in charge of the entire production shop floor team.

As such it is also your responsibility to ensure the team achieves their output targets by keeping them motivated, removing any roadblocks, or providing clarity and direction when needed.

In order to achieve these results, you’ll have to excel in collaborating with various departments such as logistics, supply chain, procurement, quality, and process engineering. Reporting wise the Production Leader reports directly to the Operations Manager. As a Production Leader you will have the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Setting up a working schedule and clear method of communicating production results to the Operations Manager and other stakeholders.
  • Identifying opportunities to further improve the production process and ways of working throughout.
  • Creating clarity for your team and the entire organization.
  • Developing and Implementing better ways of producing by applying.
  • Lean Six Sigma development.
  • Set up a production schedule.
  • Ensure the team can work as planned and that targets are reached.
  • Collaborating with various departments to arrange all resources, materials, and services needed for production.

A day as a Production Leader
You get into the office, grab a coffee or tea, and then you start by reviewing the production schedule for the day. Next, you’ll meet up with the area leads and go over the production data of the previous day. Production disturbances are discussed, repair and maintenance activities scheduled and any action following is appointed to the right action holder. You check with quality on their findings on the parts produced and see if any correction to the activities is needed.

Then when your team goes to work and the machines are humming you’re on standby for emergencies or questions, the leads can’t solve by themselves and focus on what is needed for the next week and month and how you can achieve the long-term schedule. The demand planner is your best friend on this matter. During lunch, you have time to reflect and relax. You are free to have a good walk or eat your lunch in the canteen.

In the afternoon you have a brief meeting with the process engineering and maintenance teams and align on schedules and you provide your input and ideas to further improve the processes. Then you do your round on the shop floor to see if all is well and if there are lean practices to implement, before heading off to logistics to sign off the batch of parts ready for despatch.

At the end of the day, you list the numbers produced and align them with the Operations Manager, if needed, before heading home.
