What will you do as a Performance Engineer Energy Storage & Conversion?
Battery models are essential in obtaining the optimal design of our battery packs and optimal use of the energy storage and conversion system. Your personal mission is to develop, identify, and maintain battery models and to contribute to energy management control strategies.

As a Performance Engineer Energy Storage & Conversion? you will have the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Define and implement (Matlab/Simulink) battery performance simulation models (covering electro-thermal behavior as well as battery degradation), for various fidelity levels (cell/pack level, including semi-empirical and electro-chemical)
  • Define and perform experiments for battery model parameter identification and performance validation
  • Contribute to the development of battery management strategies (battery state estimation (e.g. SoC, SoH, SoF), battery thermal management, battery charge management, etc.) 

What do we expect from a Performance Engineer Energy Storage & Conversion at Lightyear?

You are also someone with a highly critical mindset. Furthermore, you'll bring: 

  • A Master's degree in a relevant field of mechanical or electrical engineering, systems, and control, applied physics, chemical engineering, or similar field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar role;
  • Experience in the automotive industry is considered a plus;
  • Experience in battery performance modeling and battery management strategies essential;
  • Affinity with battery electrochemical performance modeling is a strong plus;
  • The ability to extract model requirements from stakeholders and assess model accuracy performance;
  • Extensive simulation/modeling skills and the track record to show for it;
  • Proactive;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Strong desire to understand high-tech complexity, driven by your curiosity you want to grasp what we do and why we do it;
  • Proficient in English;
