What will you do as a Medior Software Engineer Cloud Platform?
As a Medior Software Engineer you will help build Lightyear’s cloud platform powering the car, mobile app, website and internal tools; collecting fleet telemetry data and providing integrations between partner and Lightyear backend systems to support us in getting the first solar electric vehicle to market.

The cloud platform will be built around an event streaming backbone, our data platform, and accessible through public APIs using Lambda functions written in Rust. You will do this together with the rest of our multidisciplinary IT team.

As Lightyear is still a young company you have plenty of opportunities to make your mark in our processes. You regularly have discussions with relevant stakeholders and the IT Team. Of course, when you are heading off to our epic Friday afternoon drinks at the end of the week, you will be having a highly contributed feeling about your achieved results! Building the way forward for Lightyear. Your job will consist of but is not limited to:

  • Design and develop back-end applications to support all users of our cloud platform, including the mobile application, website, fleet, and other external systems
  • Help shape the future of the cloud platform to be manageable, scalable, and easy to use
  • Collaborate with stakeholders from all parts of the company to build what’s needed to streamline internal processes or provide customer features in rapid iterations
  • Be a leader in the IT organization, coaching team members and establishing best practices on multiple topics like code quality, testing, and documentation
  • Be a team player in the multidisciplinary scrum team that builds our cloud platform
  • Coach and be involved in hiring new colleagues

What do we expect from a Medior Software Engineer at Lightyear?
In order to succeed in the dynamic world of Lightyear; pro-activity, professionalism, communication, and adaptability are crucial. We are looking for people with an ambitious attitude who learn from the past (tried and tested) and who strive to set new standards when needed. You can work within a team or independently. You are flexible and can work under pressure. Furthermore, we are looking for someone with:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree within the field of Software Engineering or related
  • Around 2-5 years of full-time relevant experience with demonstrable experience within the field of Backend Development
  • Experience with building reliable and highly available cloud-hosted applications, current technologies used in Lightyear are f.e. Rust, AWS Lambda, Kafka and NodeJS
  • Experience with or eager to learn Rust and other used languages
  • Experience with designed well structured API's
  • Experience with scrum development practices
  • Experience with automatically testing your code
  • Ability to work in dynamical multidisciplinary teams
  • Fluent in English is mandatory (Dutch is considered a plus)
  • Availability for at least 32 hours per week, full-time (40 hours) is also an option
