A day as a Mechanical Design Engineer
Let's start by saying Lightyear is very flexible in terms of your working hours. In this role, it is expected you will be in our offices in Venray a minimum of 2 days a week.
You join the standup with the team and discuss what you have done yesterday, and talk about the designs you plan to finish for today. During the stand-up, your colleague asks for your input on a new project, and you make some time in the afternoon to align on this.
After the standup, you check on your emails, and respond to some technical questions from a supplier producing the components you designed.
With all questions answered, you dig into the finishing of your components. Luckily, they passed the technical review so it's just a matter of creating the technical drawings and the right exports.
After lunch, you begin the afternoon by aligning with your colleague on the new project. You sketch out some ideas and perform some hand-calculations to show feasibility. With the time you have left, you automate some tedious recurring CAD tasks to support the detailed design of the new project.
Before finishing for the day, you grab another caffeinated beverage with your colleagues and have a chat about how the day went, not because you have to, but because it’s a nice way to end the day!
