A day as a Material Planner
It’s Monday and when you arrive at the production site in Venray, you grab a cup of coffee or tea on your way to your workspace near the shop floor.

You start up the computer, open the ERP system, check for any shortages or concerns, and head off to your regular meeting with the Demand Planner. Together you review the production schedule and analyze it for potential changes which require action towards suppliers or logistics.

Then it’s time to head to the shopfloor and ensure internal logistics delivers the correct materials in the correct quantities to several areas of the production line. Next, you check in with the Shift Supervisor to ensure everything is ok.

During lunch, you have time to reflect and relax. You are free to have a good walk or have lunch in the canteen.

In the afternoon you receive an email from a supplier that informs you of a delay on a scheduled delivery of parts due to the late arrival of raw material. You immediately call the supplier to get more clarification and ensure that subsequent deliveries are not impacted. He assures you that it is not the case.

Later in the afternoon, you meet with a Category Manager. She intends to switch a supplier, which has some implications for the items being purchased. You give her feedback on some points to take into account before phasing in the new supplier. Before you close your day you have a short brainstorming session with other material planners about a common issue you discovered. You list all the possible solutions and decide to discuss this in a broader setting with procurement and logistics.

Finally, you call it a day and go home as you feel satisfied to help build a cleaner and sustainable future!
