What will you do as Battery Management Test Engineer?

It is your mission to test the hell out of our battery systems in order to make sure that our vehicles are equipped with efficient and safe batteries, in all conditions and all over the world. In order to do so, you will:

  • Plan, prepare and execute high voltage battery and battery management verification and validation testing at internal and external test facilities.
  • Work with various system engineering teams to break down and review test requirements and develop test specs and test cases.
  • Define and create innovative HV battery and BMS test setups: from part testing up to vehicle level.
  • Take ownership of safe and correct low and high voltage test facilities and test performance within the Testing department.
  • Performing battery and converters system tests.
  • Reporting and reviewing bugs, issues with the system engineers

So what does a typical day look like? 
In the morning you start with a stand-up of the Energy Conversion and Storage scrum team. You notice a change of plans that is communicated by the project manager. Immediately after the stand-up you catch up with the system architect, to discuss the impact of the changed plans to the test planning. With your testing colleagues you discuss availability of the test setups and check in with other test engineers for synergy between systems test execution.
After a home-made lunch in our kanteen with your colleagues, you start the test execution and report the results and issues to the system architect.

What do we expect from a Battery Management Test Engineer at Lightyear?
In order to succeed in the dynamic world of Lightyear pro-activity, professionalism, communication and adaptability are crucial. We are looking for people with an ambitious attitude who learn from the past (tried and tested) and who strive to set new standards when needed. You can work within the team or independently and you plan your budget and time well. You are flexible and can work under pressure. Furthermore we are looking for someone with:

  • Master in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Min. 5 years of experience in an automotive OEM in a similar testing role

  • A proven track record of technical excellence 

  • Experience in battery powered electric vehicles and powertrains
  • Thermal runaway knowledge
  • EV workshop certificate (EN9140) and HV installation certificate (EN3140)
  • Ability to interpret regulations and test procedures
  • Programming experience in Python/ Matlab
  • Safety conscious, eye for detail and analytical 
  • Fluency in English
