Summary

Where: The Automotive Campus in Helmond (part of Brainport: the heart of Europe's innovation) or remote from the comfort of your own home office or in one of our hubs.

Experience: Minimum of 6 years’ experience in a law firm and/or as an in-house DPO or legal counsel. Previous working experience in the automotive industry is preferred, but not essential.
Degree: Master degree in Law (LL.M.), preferably private and/or data privacy laws.

What will you do as a Data Protection Officer?
Let's start by saying Lightyear is very flexible in terms of your working hours, we offer near-full remote working with any office equipment we need to work ergonomically (and a work-at-home budget to upgrade your internet). If needed, or desired, you can spend your working time at our modern office at the Automotive Campus close to Helmond (travel allowance included). Here you can enjoy a good cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate, fresh fruit and experience the buzz of the office and the labs/workshops.

Lightyear is looking for an all-round, proactive, solution-oriented Data Protection Officer who will be responsible for a diverse set of tasks. You will ensure Lightyear's products are brought to market with our customers' privacy as a top priority. In addition, together with the General Counsel, you will be expected to support in providing legal advice (both solicited and unsolicited) to all departments of the organization. You continuously find the right balance between what the business requests, the interests of the organization and any legal obligations that must be met. Your ability to provide strategic and proactive advice is of great importance. In order to be the right fit, you need to be able to quickly change gears and to process large portions of information in a short period of time. As a Data Protection Officer you will have the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Ensuring GDPR compliance of our organization and our products.
  • Draft and negotiate all sorts of commercial contracts.
  • Maintain (internal) guidelines, policies and objectives.
  • Provide legal advice and support to all units within the company.
  • Identify and analyze possible regulatory and policy issues and provide practical solutions to the business.
  • Manage partnerships with outside counsel (select, manage, evaluate and control).
  • Assist in dispute settlement and litigation.
What do we expect from a Data Protection Officer?
To succeed in the dynamic world of Lightyear, pro-activity, professionalism, communication and adaptability are crucial. You are also someone with a high sense of responsibility and a cooperative attitude. You have excellent communication skills, you are a self starter with a ‘can do’ mentality. You are solution-oriented, hardworking, self-confident and good at listener. Of course, you confirm to rules and legislation but you are also willing to take some calculated risk. You are able to inspire other on legal matters. Having a sense of humor also goes a long way :).

You work closely together with the General Counsel, focussed on GDPR related topics but you also do not shy away from stepping in where you can contribute to requests from other departments of the organization. Furthermore you'll bring:
  • Master degree in Law (LL.M.), preferably private and/or data privacy laws.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in a law firm and/or as an in-house DPO or legal counsel.
  • Previous working experience in the automotive industry is preferred, but not essential.
  • Fluent in both Dutch and English, including legal drafting in both languages.
  • Excellent understanding of applicable laws and regulations, including the ability to translate these to a layman.
  • Ability to make sound business decisions, even in times of ambiguity or uncertainty.
  • Solution-oriented and pragmatic, while adhering to legal standards.
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams, in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
  • As a person you focus on quality and you have a broad view on the different businesses within Lightyear. You are sensitive to the costs, you strive for efficiency and productivity. You are flexible, versatile and you do this with speed and agility.
